Yoga throughout the world

Here are my top 5 yoga places in the world. I now live in the Netherlands and mainly practice at Yoga Nieuw Vennep, but have lived in the UK for 20 years and in New York for 2 years. During my times abroad and holidaying around the world I have been fortunate to be able to practice yoga. I love different yoga styles and so many different teachers as well as meeting like minded people through yoga. So I want to share my top places – in no particular order:

1.Omfactory, New York, USA

Manhattan always surprised me by what was housed in the enormous cement skyscrapers (doctors, indoor playgrounds, swimming pools) and one hidden gem was the Omfactory close to my work. Great for lunch time yoga classes with a variety of teachers. I loved the Ashtanga practice there.

2. Sivananda Yoga Ashram, Dalat, Vietnam

I have already written a longer blog about this. This is far away for me but definitely so worth it if you are in that part of the world. I have never felt so good after a few days here through their regular schedule and healthy food and clean air.

3. Star Surf Yoga, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaries

In the chilled-out town El Cortillo as part of the surf school there is a nice small yoga studio. I practiced yoga here daily in the morning with two different teachers. It was a nice mix of energetic and softer yoga to wake us up and get us ready for the beautiful sunny days. A perfect way to create your own yoga holiday.

4. Bamboo Yoga Retreats, Goa, India

You can go here for a few days and just do any of the yoga classes in their regular schedule. I went with my family and whilst they enjoyed the beach, I joined the yoga classes. The food was delicious too and we slept in proper beach huts.

5.Triyoga, London, UK

A great chain of yoga studios with fabulous teachers. I used to go to the one in Soho as its so easy to reach from out of town (Into London Victoria then the tube to Oxford Street Circus) but you do have to battle the crowds to get there. It is tucked away in a beautiful courtyard and very peaceful.

6. Reykjavic Yoga, Reykjavic, Iceland

A trendy place above a bakery shop with cool graffiti on the walls. The light is beautiful from all directions with the high sloped ceilings. I practiced a morning flow with a Dutch teacher. She adjusted it very well to the time of day and got us to slowly warm up and wake up. I would definitely recommend it and even though there are so much outdoor amazing things to do in this country, its a great way to get to know the city.
